Smartphone Case Cleaning Step One: Gather Your Materials

Smartphone cases can be cleaned well with only a few supplies, which you almost definitely already have around your house. 

No matter what material your phone case is made of, the best cloth to use for cleaning your case is a microfiber towel. Microfiber cloths will not scratch your phone or its case because they are soft and non-abrasive enough to clean even the most delicate surfaces and materials. If you don’t already own microfiber towels, fear not – you can pick up a multipack of the towels from your local home improvement store, usually for less than ten dollars.

When cleaning a plastic phone case like one from Crown & Paw, all you need is a microfiber towel, some soap and water, and, if you want to be extra thorough, an old toothbrush. The simple combination of soap and water is gentle enough to use to clean even a printed phone case without running the risk of fading or damaging the print.

For phone cases made of wood or leather, you may need to modify your cleaning techniques a bit. These materials are more delicate and sensitive, and can be damaged by harsh scrubbing or overuse of water. If your phone case is made of wood, you may want to avoid using water entirely, or use it as minimally as possible. After you dry-wipe your case with a microfiber cloth, it’s time to start using some soap and water to clean the case even more thoroughly. You may be tempted to use a cleaning spray on your case to get the job done, but it is often best to stick with just the simple pairing of soap and water when cleaning your case.

To let the soap and water work, you can either soak your phone case for a few minutes, or gently wipe down your case with a damp, soapy microfiber towel. Microfiber cloths are absorbent and water-resistant, making them ideal for circumstances where you don’t want to use too much water. While soaking can be a great option for a plastic or rubber case, opt for just a wet cloth when cleaning a leather case. If your case is made of wood, it’s best to avoid soap and water altogether and keep your cleaning to a minimum.
